love is a messy thing
that gets in your bones
and you never can be rid
of love that was meant for you
no matter the imperfection
of the humans involved
or any kind of rejection
or ending of relationships
if you know, you know
that true love can never end
and a thousand miles apart
means nothing to the heart
but sometimes you have to learn
to live your life without him there
many more partners, never finding
the same again, anywhere
you live your life until you can’t
and live alone instead
no more pretending
he’s ever coming back
but you never forget
and the memory’s still clear
and you come to know
he was the only truth you ever had
