Sir Keir Starmer was at the Jaguar Landrover announcing the new trade deal with the USA, being particularly pleased to be bringing some relief to the workers there who were facing an uncertain future, following the previous tariff of 27.5% imposed by the Americans, which has now been dropped down to 10%, amongst a range of measures announced today.
Also today, Pope Leo was elected from the Vatican conclave. He is pictured here during his first few minutes of appearing on the Vatican balcony for the first time as the pope. He was born in the USA as Robert Prevost, and spent much of his working life in Peru, having citizenship of both countries.
It was also the 80th anniversary of VE day 1945 in the UK, and much was made of the American connection back then, as now, during the announcement of the trade deal.
