9 March 2026 – Today, the cinema club went to see ‘Mother’s Pride’ at the Showcase cinema.  The other three members enjoyed it thoroughly, particularly as it was a British film, and was largely filmed locally.

Whilst I got into the drama of it eventually, I thought it quite laborious, and it took time to get going, with a lot of silly (and old) jokes making-up the first part of the film, almost in the form of a very dated sketch show.

It was not until one of the main characters broke down, and acknowledged that he had been struggling with mental health problems since the death of his mother, that I began to see some drama in the film, and it was only then that the story seemed to progress, in my opinion.  Whilst I think my fellow members would score it highly, I thought it deserved only a middling score of 6 for a very middling sort of film.  IMDB scores it at 6.8, whilst Rotten Tomatoes do not have enough reviews (as yet) to give it a score.
