10 March 2026 – Our Cinema Club members watched ‘H is for Hawk’ in one member’s house, after having been to an exhibition in the art gallery (see below). We had seen the trailers in the cinema, but had somehow missed the film, and we all felt we wanted to see it.
The idea for the story of the film was very good, but was let down by the writing and the acting, in my opinion, and I was very surprised to see Brendan Gleeson appearing here, as he should be getting much better offers.
We all thought the hawk was pretty magnificent, but nothing else about the film was. Again, the plot was good, and it should have been a much better drama than it was. In this instance, we seemed to be running against the tide as IMDB scored it at 6.5, and Rotten Tomatoes at 8.0 (80%).
Maybe, we were just a group of tired oldies, after our day out at the museum, with pub lunch afterwards, as I think that we would probably have scored it at about 2 to 4 at most.
